Great Sand Dunes National Park


Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a United States National Park located in the San Luis Valley, in the easternmost parts of Alamosa County and Saguache County, Colorado, United States. -Originally created as Great Sand Dunes National Monument on March 17, 1932.
-Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve was established by an act of the United States Congress on September 13, 2004. 
-The park includes 44,246 acres, and the preserve protects an additional 41,686 acres.

This American national park that conserves an area of large sand dunes up to 750 feet (230 m) tall on the eastern edge of the San Luis Valley, and an adjacent national preserve in the Sangre de Cristo Range, in south-central Colorado, United States.

A large dune complex is called a dune field, while broad, flat regions covered with wind-swept sand or dunes with little or no vegetation are called ergs or sand seas

The sand is so smooth that sand sledding is a option

Great Sand Dunes Annual Pass

  • $45 for one year
If you visit Great Sand Dunes more than once in a year, consider purchasing an annual pass to save money. The Great Sand Dunes Annual Pass admits the pass holder(s) and all family members in the vehicle into the park for one year from date of purchase.
